FIA WORLD RALLYCROSS CAPE TOWN

SOUTH AFRICA

In 2016, Apex were again commissioned by International Management Group (IMG) to provide a design for a Rallycross circuit in Cape Town, South Africa as part of IMG’s vision to have a World Rallycross (WRX) event on the African Continent Killarney International Raceway, situated just 20 km from downtown Cape Town and with the iconic Table Mountain as a backdrop provided the perfect location for the final race of the 2017 WRX calendar.

Apex designed the 1.1km circuit to integrate within the ‘Killarney bowl’ between Turn 1-4, creating a fast and exciting circuit without detriment to the other events held on the circuit and drift oval. With a relatively tight programme for design and construction, Apex handed over the homologation design to the FIA at the beginning of 2017 to allow construction and testing to be completed before November.

The circuit successfully held the closing round of the WRX championship between 10-13 November 2017 and will continue to do so in the coming years.
