In 2011 Apex were contracted as part of the FIA Institute Facilities Improvement Programme to prepare a Master Plan with commercial feasibility analysis for redevelopment of the Madras Motor Race Track. The Client’s primary objective was the requirement for an exciting and up-to-date home for motorsport in southern India, that incorporated a circuit that was fast, exciting, safe, and FIA Grade 2/FIM Grade B or even Grade A status if required.

Another important Client aspiration for the project was the establishment of a multi-use facility, allowing for the whole range of motor sport and non-motorsport activities or events to run concurrently to satisfy demand from local, national, Asian and international motor sport communities and to maximise the operational profitability of the site. Other non-motorsport components were considered in order to provide additional revenue and footfall throughout the year. Such initiatives include a Country Club, a hotel, automotive brand centres, industrial/storage/warehousing units, an off-road or 4x4 centre, a driving school, and Toy Barns or exclusive Trackside Apartments. In 2012, Apex led the homologation process on behalf of the Client that resulted in the circuit obtaining an FIA and FIM licence for International racing.
